2006 Starts with a BOOM!

2006 is still very young but already our first flying event is in the history book. The Frozen Finger Funfly 2006 Edition commenced January 1st at around 11:00am. The objective is to be the first one into the air after the starting gun. You must also land safely to qualify.

The event was well attended (about 35-40 people). A fun time was had by all with the possible exception of the pilot who decided he needed a practice flight. That was our first crash of the Year. Congratulations from the Web Department!

For the first 20 minutes of so the event was mostly meet, greet and eat. Our CD and President Jim Eichenberg as always was hard at work cooking and in general running the event. The smell of boiling hot dogs, hot chocolate and coffee filled the air. There was also the smell of burning balsa.

At 5 minutes to 12:00 the 3 remaining brave pilots along with a contingent of helpers and observers lined up on the Northwest end of the field for a Lemans type start. At exactly 12:00 give or take a few seconds there was a horrendous boom (we are still unclear as to what ordinance was used). Moments later Juan Serra with the assistance of Dan Morgan fired up his engine and was soon airborne. After a very short flight he completed a landing and was declared the winner for 2006. Denis Orgera with the help of Jack DeVitto was second and Percy Ford-Smith assisted by Eric Genzer was third. Congratulations Gentlemen.

Thanks Jim for another great event.
